Jane & Brian || Wedding

Here is the debut of my filming and editing of a wedding video. My sister, Clara, and I were asked by Brian and Jane to do their wedding video. It has its imperfections. We didn't have a steady-cam so it's not super professional looking. I had no experience prior! Brian, for some crazy divine reason, believed in our abilities and trusted us with his day. Honestly I was moreso joking when I offered but he was serious on accepting it. *Note to self: Never jokingly offer your amateur services.... it will lead to craziness!*

It was definitely an experience I've never had before. Not only did we film their wedding, we also were involved with the wedding preparations the day before since we were early. I've never helped out at a wedding before so I didn't know what to expect. All I know is that I don't even want to pinterest-plan my wedding anymore because there's SO much to do. I couldn't believe all the things that had to get done and how many people it took to make sure this day went smoothly and perfect. 

Jane & Brian's wedding and story is beautiful. Right from the beginning to the end there was so much joy and love. Two nights before the wedding we were up until 3am working on random little decorations and it was pretty amazing to see how calm they were. They were always calm even when things couldn't be found, or we had to do more errands than planned. It made me calm and I think it made everyone else calm. You could see how loved these two were by how many people were willing to help out. Even Brian's groomsmen were working on the table decorations. 

This wedding showed me how much a marriage is NOT just about two people. I really honor and respect Jane for her trust in the Lord. Long story short, Jane and Brian met on a blinddate a few weeks before he was going back to Korea. The second time they met was in Korea, the third time they met was when they got engaged! She told us that more than trusting Brian, she trusted the Lord and she trusted the community he came from. She saw that he came from a healthy, loving community that displayed the essence of a true family. She had nothing to worry about even though she was literally leaving everything behind in America. Crazy, eh? Love really takes crazy risks.

We worked with the amazing Tanya and her intern Elle. It was SUCH an honor to work with someone so professional and so confident in her skills. Being in her presence and working made our day a lot calmer than we anticipated. Check out her amazing photos of the day!

To be honest, it's kind of terrifying to do something like this while waiting in anticipation to see how people react. It's a pretty vulnerable place to show your piece of work with the world and hear NOTHING. Silence is more devastating than constructive criticism, so please be kind to me today :)

other hobbies || my life

I've been wanting to buy a bicycle for a while. So I finally went on kijiji and found one. I can't wait for the weather to warm up and to bike all around the city. I don't want to drive anymore. I can't run very well but I can bike for hours. Biking is another hobby/activity that I will be partaking in a lot this summer! $75 is a pretty good deal for a bicycle for the streets. 

I decided I'd try learning the ukelele. I love the sound of it. I printed out the chord chart, found some awesome helpful websites and am going to use my friend's ukelele to practice. 

Lastly, today I bought a monopod! This is perfect for filming with a DSLR. I watched this monopod video yesterday and knew I had to get one. Today I found one on sale for $20! 

I'm trying to be more proactive in doing the things I want to do and following through with what I dream about. I can't just daydream about biking, playing the ukelele and shooting awesome videos. I gotta pick myself up and go!

 This is a video we shot about 2 months ago in a really cute cafe in Seoul. I love it because 6 of us (Joanne, Mark, me, Lee Ann, Michael, and Liz) all shot it and acted in it. We all came up with different creative ideas on what to do with our video. It took us about 3 hours to shoot. Eventually the cafe wasn't too happy with us but we ended up with this great video! This being our first collaborated stop motion video I'm pretty impressed.

I love and miss my photo club. When you're in a setting with a lot of creative people, you can't help but come up with silly and fun projects like this. They were all so inspiring and encouraging when it came to photography. Thats what we need in this world. I find that people are always so competitive and wanting to be better than the next person. Not with our club. We were always supporting each other.

January for Hannah || my video

Around November or December 2010 I started to watch a lot of Wong Fu Productions videos just for fun. I was so impressed by what they were doing. I was so inspired to see 3 seemingly average guys living out their dreams. Through their video blogs you could see that they were always so humble about how far they had come. I had this urge to make a video, but I was too afraid of failing, too afraid of criticism, too afraid of being overlooked. But here we are. I'm over it. It's 2012 and I finally did it. No story. No script. Nothing but my Nikon D5100, a 50mm prime lens, a good song and great people in my life. I'm so thankful for my friends here that have inspired me as they have also been filming and making their own monthly videos.

For me to share this video with you is a big deal. I never make videos for fun. I'm usually asked to make a video for some conference or event. I've never taken a film course. I don't have any official training it. I barely know how to use my DSLR to it's fullest potential, let alone even know what kind of functions I have on it. I'm amazed that I actually spent time to film, edit, upload AND share this video. It's nothing special. It's just the random things that I did this past month. Since I just bought this camera in December I've been slowly using it more and more. I carry my camera wherever I go so that I can keep up with Project 366. I find myself filming random clips and snapping photos more than I ever did before.
